Edited June 18, 2013 by NoMrBond Every single aerobraking pass is different, even for the same ship going to the same planet. This is because your speed is going to be different each time and just a few hundred m/s makes a profound difference on what you get aerobraking at a given Pe altitude.

A little stress testing of the new heatshield part.Got the idea from /u/Pikrass on reddit and expanded it a bit :)I hope the speed of the text is ok because Aerobraking is a spaceflight maneuver that reduces the high point of an elliptical orbit (apoapsis) by flying the vehicle through the atmosphere at the low point of the orbit (periapsis). The resulting drag slows the spacecraft.

I've been running some aerobraking test trials on kerbin and seem to have issues with the rocket flipping and rolling with a heatshield while going through the atmosphere. < 1 1 >.

KSP Delta-V Planner is a tool to calculate your rocket Delta-V for interplanetary travels in Kerbal Space Program.

The limiting factor, which does not apply to KSP, is that the higher atmosphere of bodies isn't well known, and in fact is quite variable over time.

Actual lithobraking is better known as "bouncing". 2.

It even makes sense physically, leading with the heat shield of the docked command pod. KSP doesn't model heat damage at the moment, so it doesn't matter much, but it does look cool: I love how KSP is a balance between You may check the "No insertion burn" checkbox instead if you intend to perform a fly-by or aerobraking maneuver. that being said, it might be better to use a tylo gravity assist to capure into jool orbit. probably a bit harder to set up, but a lot less dangerous. #2 =BB= Lt. Use the vectors to adjust your Laythe periapsis to a suitable aerobraking altitude (about ~48,000m for Jool orbit or about ~45,000m for Laythe orbit). Kerbal Space Program.

Sorry! In this Let's Play Tutorial Series I'll be going over the fundame So I'm planning my first mission to Jool and was wondering if a heat shield is needed for aerobraking ? While aerobraking on dune I didn't need a heat shield but I don't think this will work on Jool. I've been running some aerobraking test trials on kerbin and seem to have issues with the rocket flipping and rolling with a heatshield while going through the atmosphere.
